Why is Physical Activity Important?

A few main reasons Physical Activity is imporant:

  • Improves overall health and wellness

  • Maintain healthy weight (BMI)

  • Reduce High Blood Pressure

  • Reduce risk for Type II Diabetes, Heart Attack, Stroke, and several forms of Cancer

  • Reduce Arthritis pain and associated disabilities

  • Reduce risk for Osteoporosis and falls

  • Reduce symptoms of Depression and Anxiety

Physical Activity & Exercise for Children

Recommended amount of daily Physical Activity:

  • Children & Adolescents should be getting at least ONE HOUR (or more) of Physical Activity daily.

 

Children should focus on three core areas of Physical Activity to promote proper development:

  • Aerobic Activity (Examples: brisk walking or vigorous activity, like soccer game)

  • Muscle Strengthening (Examples: gymnastics or push-ups)

  • Bone Strengthening (Examples: jumping rope or running)
